Pagbaba ng kriminalidad, nasasapawan ng patuloy na pagkalat ng fake news ayon sa isang House Leader

Nababahala si Assistant Majority Leader Jil Bongalon sa epekto ng pagpapakalat ng fake news at maling impormasyon sa tiwala ng taumbayan sa mga otoridad.

Aniya, bagamat bumababa ang bilang ng krimen sa bansa, nagkakaroon naman umano ng pangamba ang publiko dahil sa mga maling impormasyon sa social media.

Ayon sa datos ng Philippine National Police (PNP), sa naitalang 4,817 na kaso ng focus crimes mula January 1 hanggang February 14, 2024 ay bumaba na ito sa 3,528 ngayong taon o katumbas ng 26.76 percent na pagbaba.

Ipinakita rin ng year-on-year data ang 7.31% na pagbaba sa focus crimes, mula 41,717 na kaso noong 2023 kumpara sa 38,667 ngayong 2024.

Gayunman, nasasapawan aniya ito ng mga viral post sa social media, na madalas ay kulang sa konteksto, hindi totoo, o hindi dito nangyari pero pinalalabas na sa Pilipinas naganap.

Sinegundahan ni Bongalon ang panawagan ni PNP Chief Rommel Marbil sa mga mamamahayag at online users, na iulat ang krimen nang may patas na pagtingin at tamang nilalaman, at iwasan ang pagpapalala ng insidente.

“Fake news is a crime in itself—it steals peace of mind and sows unnecessary fear. Ang epekto nito ay hindi lang takot kundi pagkawalang-tiwala sa mga institusyong araw-araw na nagtatrabaho para sa ating seguridad,” saad ni Bongalon.

Hirit pa ng mambabatas na palakasin ang media literacy, lalo na sa mga kabataan upang matulungan na matukoy ang pinagkakatiwalaang impormasyon mula sa mga viral na disimpormasyon.
