PDIC, sinimulan nang doblehin ang insurance coverage sa P1-M ng depositor kada bangko

Sinimulan na ng Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) ang ang maximum deposit insurance coverage mula P500,000 patungong P1 milyon kada depositor kada bangko.

Ang hakbang ay sinimulan nitong weekend Marso 15, 2025.

Ayon sa PDIC, ito ang kauna-unahang pagkakataon na nagkaroon ng independent adjustment mula nang bigyan ng awtoridad ang kanilang board na baguhin ang coverage nang hindi na kailangan ng pag-apruba ng Kongreso, sa pamamagitan ng mga amyenda sa kanilang charter.

Paliwanag ng PDIC, ibinatay ang desisyong ito sa mga datos ng inflation at nominal gross domestic product (GDP) per capita.

Ang dating P500,000 na limitasyon na itinakda noong 2009 ay tinatayang katumbas na rin ng humigit-kumulang P1 milyon kung ia-adjust batay sa inflation sa pagitan ng 2025 hanggang 2027.

Tiniyak naman ng PDIC sa mga bangko, na hindi maaapektuhan ang kasalukuyang assessment rate na isa sa bawat limang bahagi ng isang porsyento (0.2%) ng kanilang total deposit liabilities, upang mapanatili ang katatagan ng sistema ng pananalapi sa bansa. | ulat ni Melany Valdoz Reyes
