Proteksyon para sa mga estudyante, manggagawa mula sa matinding init kasabay ng pagsisimula ng ‘warm and dry season’, pinasisiguro

Pinatitiyak ni Representative Perci Cendaña sa pamahalaan na mabigyan ng sapat na proteksyon ang mga manggagawa, mag-aaral, at iba pa na nakababad sa initan.

Ito’y matapos lumabas ang ulat ng grupong Climate Central, na ang Pilipinas ang ikatlo sa mga bansa sa Asya na may pinakamataas na temperatura na pinalala ng climate change.

Nito lang din March 26 ay inanunsyo na ng PAGASA ang pagsisimula ng ‘warm and dry season’ kung saan ilang lugar din ang maaaring makaranas ng ‘danger’ level na heat index o init sa katawan.

Kaya mahalaga aniya na magkaroon ng tamang bentilasyon at access sa drinking fountains sa mga paaralan.

“We also hope our LGUs will be proactive in suspending classes when heat levels are already unbearable for students. Dapat na rin isipin na yung matinding init sa panahon ng climate change ay matinding perwisyo na rin sa ating mag-aaral,” ani Cendaña.

Pinapasiguro din ng kinatawan sa Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) na nasusunod ang umiiral na mga regulasyon kaugnay sa proteksyon ng mga manggagawa mula sa matinding init na nakasaad sa Labor Advisory 8 tulad ng mga rest break o pahinga.

“Nananawagan ako sa DOLE na magkondukta ng surprise inspection sa mga opisina, pabrika, at mga construction sites kung natutupad yung nakasaad sa Labor Advisory 08 that mandate proper ventilation, rest breaks from heat exposure, free drinking water, and temperature appropriate equipment and PPEs for those working with extreme heat,” dagdag pa niya.

Hirit pa niya sa mga delivery at ride hailing companies na magbigay insentibo o benepisyo sa kanilang riders na mas babad sa initan.

“Kailangan din natin isipin na marami sa ating mga delivery riders ay kailangan bumiyahe ng tanghali kung kailan pinakamainit ang araw. This is hazardous work at dapat suklian ng sapat na insentibo para bumiyahe dagdag pa sa proteksyon na dapat nilang nakukuha,” diin niya. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
