Rice import ng bansa, bumaba sa unang quarter ng 2025 — DA

Bumaba ng halos kalahati ang rice imports ng bansa sa unang tatlong buwan ng 2025, ayon yan sa Department of Agriculture (DA).

Sa ulat ni DA Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Arnel De Mesa, as of March 13 ay nasa 641,000 metric tons (MT) ang kabuuang naangkat na bigas, kumpara sa 1.2 million MT na inangkat noong katapusan ng Marso ng 2024.

Nasa 227,000MT ang inangkat noong enero, 267,000 MT noong pebrero habang 96,000MT naman ngayong Marso.

Paliwanag nito, malaki ang ibinaba ng pag-aangkat ng bigas dahil sa inaasahang masaganang ani ngayong taon at pagbaba na rin ng presyuhan ng bigas sa world market.

Ayon pa kay De Mesa, inaangkop na ngayon ng gobyerno ang import strategy nito sa lokal na ani ng mga magsasaka.

Naniniwala din ang DA na nakatulong ang agresibong hakbang ng pamahalan para pababain ang presyo ng bigas, pati na rin ang mga hakbang ng India sa kanilang pag-export ng bigas para mapababa ang antas ng pag-aangkat ng bigas sa bansa. | ulat ni Merry Ann Bastasa
