Mas mababang rice imports ngayong 2025, inaasahan ng DA

Dahil sa mas matatag na lokal na produksyon ng palay, inaasahan ng Department of Agriculture (DA) na bababa rin ang kabuuang aangkating bigas ng bansa ngayong taon.

Ayon kay DA Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Arnel de Mesa, posibleng nasa pagitan ng 3.8 hanggang apat na milyong metriko tonelada (MMT) ang rice import ngayong 2025 na mas mababa kumpara sa naitalang 4.8 MMT noong 2024.

Ngayong unang quarter ng 2025, bumaba na rin sa 804,347 metric tons ang volume ng inangkat na bigas mula sa 1.19 MMT sa kaparehong panahon noong nakaraang taon.

Paliwanag ni Asec. De Mesa, inaasahang makakabawi na ngayon ang produksyon ng palay sa bansa sa mas magandang ani ng mga magsasaka.

Wala na ring inaasahan ang DA na malalang hamon na gaya ng El Niño, La Niña, at serye ng mga bagyo na nakaapekto sa sektor noong nakaraang taon. | ulat ni Merry Ann Bastasa
