Senador Koko Pimentel, naghain ng panukala para buhayin ang shoe industry ng Pilipinas

Naghain si Senate Minority Leader Koko Pimentel ng isang panukalang batas na layong buhayin ang shoe industry ng Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng pagtatatag ng mga modernong Shoe Manufacturing Hubs sa buong Pilipinas.

Sa ilalim ng Senate Bill 2994, isinusulong na ang Marikina City ang mag-host ng pilot facility ng mga minumungkahing Shoe Manufacturing Hubs.

Minamandato ng panukala ang Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) at ang mga lokal na pamahalaan na tukuyin ang mga strategic locations sa buong Pilipinas kung saan pwedeng itayo ang mga hubs na ito.

Paliwanag ni Pimentel, layon nitong patatagin ang footwear industry ng Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng pagsuporta sa mga micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) at pagbibigay sa kanila ng access sa mga shared service facilities at modernong imprastraktura.

Pinapanukala din dito ang pagbuo ng isang Shoe Industry Development Program na pangungunahan ng DTI, sa pakikipagtulungan sa Department of Science and Technology (DOST) at Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Tututukan ng programa ang research at development ng shoe design at production technologies, skills training at certification, promotion ng mga local brands sa domestic at international markets at ang pagpapatupad ng quality assurance standardization systems.

Sakali ring maaprubahan ay mabibigyan ng insentibo ang mga local shoe manufacturers, gaya ng preferrential access sa low-interest loans at iba pang mga benepisyo. | ulat ni Nimfa Asuncion
