Ikinaalarma ni CHED Chairperson Prospero De Vera ang nangyaring insidente ng sexual assault sa isang estudyante sa loob ng UP Diliman Campus.
Batay sa statement ng Office of the Chancellor, isang babaeng estudyante ang nag-report sa UPD Police matapos makaranas ng sexual assault mula sa isang hindi pa nakikilalang suspek noong July 1 sa Ylanan Street.
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni Chair De Vera na inatasan na nito ang UP President at UP Diliman Chancellor na iprayoridad ang lahat ng posibleng assistance sa biktimang estudyante at sa kanyang pamilya.
“I have asked the University Administration to extend all possible assistance to the student and her family at this time of great challenge. I share with the entire UP Community our full support for her and her family in overcoming this difficult traumatic hurdle in their lives and in the longer process of healing.
Pinatutukan rin nito sa UP administrative at security officials ang imbestigasyon at agarang pagresolba sa kaso.
Dapat aniyang makipag-ugnayan ang
UP administration sa Philippine National Police (PNP) para sa mabilis na pagtukoy at pagtunton sa nasa likod ng krimen.
“The UP administration must tap the expertise of the PNP to identify, track and apprehend all those responsible for this reprehensible act of violence.”
Giit nito, dapat na manatiling ‘safe space’ ang mga higher education institutions gaya ng UP para sa mga estudyante.
Kasunod nito, hinikayat ni Chair De Vera ang sinumang may impormasyon na makatutulong sa kaso na agad i-report ito sa mga awtoridad.
Kailangan aniyang masiguro na magagawa ang lahat para makamit ang hustisya sa biktima.
Dagdag pa ni Chair De Vera, dapat maging ‘wake up call’ ang insidente sa University of the Philippines para i-review at i-rationalize ang security at safety policies ng unibersidad kabilang ang operational engagement sa PNP at iba pang law enforcement agencies. | ulat ni Merry Ann Bastasa
