Makokolektang taripa mula sa agri-imports, dapat ipantulong sa sektor ng agrikultura

Muling binigyang diin ni House Ways and Means Committee Joey Salceda ang kahalagahan na bigyang suporta ang pagpapalakas sa lokal na industriya ng agrikultura.

Aniya, hindi sapat na protektahan lang ang agriculture sector sa tuwing mag-aangkat ng agri-products ang bansa, bagkus ay paunlarin ang sektor.

Ito aniya ang layon ng kaniyang House Bill 2471 o Universal Tariff Flowback Act.

Sa pamamagitan nito, lahat ng makokolektang taripa mula imported agri-products ay gagamitin para palakasin ang domestic counterpart nito.

Halimbawa aniya, ang masisingil na taripa mula sa imported na karne ng baboy ay ilalaan sa local swine industry.

“The tariffs from imports of agricultural products should go towards developing their domestic counterparts. So, revenues from imported pork should go to the domestic swine industry. Revenues from imported dressed chicken should go towards the broiler sector. That way, we can keep consumer prices low without throwing farmers under the bus,” saad ni Salceda.

Isang hiwalay na panukala rin ang inihain ni Salceda kung saan magkakaroon naman ng automatic appropriations para sa livestock, poultry at corn sector.

Sa ilalim ng House Bill 440 o Livestock, Poultry, and Dairy Development Act, mula sa kabuuang taripa ng imported na mais at livestock, 6.3 billion pesos ang ilalaan para sa livestock at poultry sector at karagdagang 2.8 billion pesos sa industriya ng pagmamais. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
