Pinangunahan ng Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) ang delegasyon ng bansa sa East Asia-Europe Interregional Exchange on Child-Friendly Cities na inorganisa ng United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) sa Madrid, Spain at Helsinki, Finland.
Ang pakikiisa rito ng DILG ay alinsunod sa direktiba ni DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos, Jr. sa pagsusulong ng kapakanan ng mga kabataan sa pamamagitan ng local governance.
“Children are the present and the future of the country. Governments must, therefore, prioritize the welfare and needs of children in their development agenda. After all, the better nation that we are building is for them to inherit,” ani Abalos.
Sa naturang forum, iprinisinta ni DILG Undersecretary Odilon Pasaraba ang Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit (CFLGA) at iba pang hakbang ng pamahalaan para mapatatag ang partisipasyon ng mga kabataan sa gobyerno pati na ang mga isyung kinahaharap ng mga kabataan sa bansa.
Kaugnay nito, hinikayat ni Sec. Abalos ang mga LGU na magtagugod ng child-freindly spaces.
“Being child-friendly means our infrastructure and public spaces should be safe for children and conducive to their development. It is high time that local government units prioritize investments for children,” pagbibigay-diin ni Abalos.
