Iginiit ni Ways and Means Committee Chair Joey Salceda na kailangan lang ng tamang law enforcement o pagpapatupad ng batas upang maresolba ang isyu sa operasyon ng Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators o POGO.
Reaksyon ito ni Salceda kasabay ng pag-usad sa Senado ng panukala na tuluyang alisin ang POGO sa bansa.
Sinabi ni Salceda na may sapat na mga batas ang bansa para parusahan ang mga krimen na iniuugnay sa POGO at mayroon din aniyang mga mekanismo para ipasara ang mga mapagsamantalang kompanya.
“All issues raised about POGOs concern issues of law enforcement. The solution to law enforcement issues is frankly, to enforce the law… Banning an entire business on the basis of issues that the law enforcement alone can address is like burning the whole house down to snuff out the rats,” ani Salceda.
Dagdag pa ng economist-solon na sa ibang mga bansa—gaya ng Gibraltar at Cyprus—na may non-Chinese dominated POGO, ang naturang industriya ang pangunahing nagbibigay ng trabaho.
“And let’s be clear. In other countries where offshore gaming isn’t a Chinese-dominated sector, the industry is a leading employer and source of value added. That’s the case in Gibraltar and Cyprus. Nothing in our law says the industry has to be Chinese.
