Pinuri ni Ways and Means Cttee Chair Joey Salceda ang Bureau of Customs (BOC) sa pamumuno ni Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio, ang matagumpay na pagkakaharang sa may P35.3 billion na halaga ng shabu sa Subic at Manila International Container Port (MICP).
Tinukoy ni Salceda, na ang lethal dose ng shabu ay nasa 200mg.
Kaya ang nasabat aniya ng BOC ay kakayaning kumitil ng 25 million na Pilipino.
“In Subic, they caught some 560 kilos, or a combined worth of around P3.9 billion based on the per-kilo estimates of the Dangerous Drugs Board. In Manila International Container Port, they caught around 4.45 tons, which is close to P31.5 billion in value. So, you’re looking at a combined value of around P35.4 billion…This is a serious accomplishment on the part of the BOC, but it also signifies that there is a serious systemic problem.” sabi ni salceda
Ang nasabat na droga sa subic ay itinago sa mga tea bag habang ang sa MICP ay itinago sa shipment ng beef jerky.
Muling binigyang-diin ni Salceda ang kahalagahan na mapalakas ang BOC upang labanan ang paggamit ng ating mga pantalan sa krimen.
Punto pa nito, na kung makakapasok ang droga ay maaari na ring makapasok ang iba pang iligal na kontrabando.
“If criminal syndicates think that they can use our ports to ship shabu into the country, then they probably believe that anything can pass through our ports.
