Isang mas matatag na seguridad para sa Pilipinas at dagdag na oportunidad pang-ekonomiya ang nabuksan sa muling pagpupulong nina Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at US Vice President Kamala Harris, ayon kay Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Nagkita ang dalawa bago ang pag-uumpisa ng 2023 Asia Pacific Cooperation Summit sa San Francisco, California sa US.
“The successful bilateral meeting between President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and US Vice President Kamala Harris, a testament to the enduring strength of the alliance between the United States and the Philippines. Of paramount importance is the reaffirmation during their meeting of our shared commitment to upholding international rules and norms, particularly in the South China Sea,” sabi ng House Speaker.
Mahalaga ani Romualdez na kunin ng Pangulo ang pagkakataon na makipag-ugnayan sa mga kapwa niya lider para isulong ang interes ng Pilipinas.
Bahagi ng napag-usapan ng dalawang lider ay ang patuloy na pagtulak sa pagtalima sa rules-based order at pagprotekta sa karapatan ng bansa sa rehiyon lalo na sa gitan ng matinding tensyon sa West Philippine Sea.
Natalakay din ang partnership ng Pilipinas at US sa semiconductor sector bunsod ng bagong batas sa Amerika na CHIPS Act of 2022.
Sa naunang pagharap ni PBBM sa Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) ng US ay inihayag nito ang kahandaan ng Pilipinas na makibahagi sa semicondutor supply chain at tumanggap ng investment o business expansion.
“US investments into the semiconductor sector will create more jobs for our people, generate considerable revenue for the government, and advance our capabilities with the transfer of technology through such partnership,” ani Romualdez.
Nasa Pilipinas ang nasa 500 semiconductors at electronics companies. Kabilang sa mga ito ang top 20 chip makers gaya ng Texas Instruments, Philips, Fairchild, Analog, Sanyo, On Semi, at Rohm. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
