Nakanda na ang Department of Agriculture Bicol sa posibleng maging epekto ng El Niño sa agrikultura sa buong rehiyon.
Ayon kay Spokesperson Lovella Guarin, Hunyo nitong nakaraang taon ng magsimula silang magbigay paalala at paghahanda sa mga magsasaka sa rehiyon kaugnay sa posibleng maging epekto nito sa kanilang kabuhayan.
Ilan sa mga hakbang at inisyatibong isinasagawa ng ahensya ay ang patuloy na pamamahagi ng fertilizer discount voucher sa ilalim ng National Rice Program, farming machineries sa ilalim ng RCEF Mechanization Program at iba pang asistensya para sa mga magsasaka.
Sa tala ng ahensya nitong Disyembre nakaraang taon, nasa mahigit 70,000 ektarya na ang nataniman ng palay sa buong rehiyon.
Sa pagtatapos ng buwan ng Enero, inaasahan na lahat ay nakapag-tanim na. Ayon sa ahensya, sa Pebrero at Marso ay hindi na nila hinihikayat ang mga magsasaka na magtanim pa ng palay. Dahil hudyat na ng pagsisimula ng matinding tagtuyot sa rehiyon. | ulat ni Garry Carl Carillo | RP1 Albay
