Mas accessible na ang Medical Education sa mga estudyante sa Eastern Visayas matapos aprubahan ng Commission on Higher Education (CHED) ang aplikasyon para sa Doctor of Medicine program ng Samar Island Institute of Medicine (SIIM) sa Samar State University (SSU).
Ayon kay CHED Secretary Prospero de Vera, ang pagpapalawak ng Medical Education sa Samar ay alinsunod pa rin sa Republic Act No. 11509 o ang Doktor Para sa Bayan Law.
“The expansion of Medical Education in Samar will facilitate the implementation of Republic Act No. 11509 or the Doktor Para sa Bayan Law as there is no state college or university in Eastern Visayas where poor but deserving students can become doctors,” ani CHED Secretary De Vera.
Ikinalugod naman ni SSU President Marilyn Cardoso ang inaprubahang Doctor of Medicine program ng CHED na aniya ay kauna-unahan sa isla ng Samar.
“As SSU President, I am filled with immense pride, joy, and gratitude that the University has finally been granted authority by CHED to offer the Doctor of Medicine program. The program is the first of its kind in the Island of Samar and represents a significant milestone in our history as a University,” pahayag ni SSU President Marilyn Cardoso.
Ayon naman kay Samar Province Governor Sharee Ann Tan, malaki ang maitutulong nito para makapagsanay ng mas maraming world-class doctors at specialists na maghahatid ng maaasahang serbisyong pagkalusugan sa mga residente ng lalawigan.
“I have long prayed for us to have a medical institution that is accessible to our aspiring doctors, especially one that is in the Province of Samar. I am sure that we are capable of producing home-grown doctors and specialists who have the heart to serve their fellow Samarnons.”
Ito na ang ika-20 medical program na inaprubahan ng CHED sa isang public university.
Mayroon na ring kabuuang 2,689 na mahihirap na mga estudyante ang nakikinabang sa scholarships sa public at private-partner medical schools sa ilalim ng Doktor Para sa Bayan Law. | ulat ni Merry Ann Bastasa
