Malaki ang pasasalamat ni House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs Chair Ron Salo sa ipinahayag na suporta ng United Filipino Seafarers Labor Federation (UFS), sa pagpapasa ng Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers.
Isang open letter ang ipinadala ng UFS sa Malacañang at Senado kung saan hinihimok nito ang agarang pagpasa sa House Bill 7325.
Kabilang sa sinuportahan ng grupo ang escrow provision ng panukala.
Para kay Salo, malaking bagay ito na nagpapakita na balanse at maayos na nabuo ang ipinasa nilang panukalang batas, na poprotekta sa mga Pilipinong mandaragat.
“I thank the United Filipino Seafarers (UFS) for their public support for the passage of the Magna Carta of Seafarers. UFS endorsement is a resounding proof that the passage of the bill, with its provision on escrow, enjoys the unqualified support of the seafarers themselves contrary to some disinformation from certain quarters who are benefitting from the status quo,” saad ni Salo.
Nagpapasalamat din si Salo sa Malacañang sa pagtiyak at pagsuporta sa kapakanan ng mga seafarer.
Umaasa naman ang mambabatas na mabilis lamang itong diringgin ng Senado at agad na mapagtibay.
“I also thank Malacañang for recognizing the plight of our seafarers. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to take swift and appropriate action so we can finally put an end to the practice of ambulance chasing,” pagtatapos ni Salo. | ulat ni Kathleen Forbes
