Dahil sa nararanasan ngayong sobrang init ng panahon, bukas ang ilang grupo ng mga negosyante sa bansa na bigyan ang kanilang manggagawa ng ‘special’ o ‘unscheduled breaks’ sa kanilang trabaho.
Ayon kay Employers Confederation of the Philippines President Sergio Ortiz-Luis Jr., sang-ayon sila sa panukala ni Senador Koko Pimentel na pagkalooban ng ‘heat breaks’ ang mga manggagawa.
Suhestyon kasi ng mambabatas, gaya sa United Arab Emirates, minamandato ang mga empleyado na magkaroon ng “special breaks” sa oras ng matinding init.
Ayon kay Ortiz-Luiz, maaring mag-isyu ang gobyerno ng alituntunin ngunit dapat pahintulutan na ang magpatupad ng occupational heat safety at health protocols alinsunod sa mga partikular na kondisyon ng kanilang kumpanya upang hindi ito maabuso.
Ayon naman kay Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) Chairman Jesus Arranza, suportado nila ang “special work breaks” kapag masyadong mainit ang panahon dahil responsibilidad ng management na pangalagaan ang kanilang mga manggagawa.
Base sa tala ng PAGASA, posibleng tumuntong sa “dangerous level” ang heat index kapag pumalo sa 42°C hanggang 51°C ang temperatura. | ulat ni Melany Valdoz-Reyes
