Naglabas ng report ang Department of Science and Technology – Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) hinggil sa malaking bilang ng pagdami ng overweight at obese na kabataang Pinoy.
Ayon sa policy statement sa “FAT (Fad and Trending)!: Adolescent Obesity” at datos mula sa 2021 Expanded National Nutrition Survey (ENNS), inihayag ng DOST-FNRI na tumaas ang overweight at obesity prevalence sa teenagers mula 11.6% noong 2018 sa 13% nitong 2021.
Lumabas din sa pag-aaral na mas maraming male respondents ang obese (14.8%) kumpara sa mga kababaihan (11.3%).
Ayon sa pahayag ng DOST-FNRI, ang pag-develop ng obesity sa mga kabataan ay maaaring bunsod ng: decreased physical activities, sedentary lifestyle, altered eating patterns, increased fat content at obesity-associated genes.
Dahil dito ay hinimok ng FNRI ang national government agencies na bumuo ng standard protocols para sa physical activity programs at routine.
Maaari din silang magbigay sa mga magulang at caregivers ng latest health information at ibang resource materials, pondo at regularly organize seminars o courses sa nutrition at physical activity, increase surveillance, at support.
Maaari ding pondohan ang mga research studies na tumututok sa symptoms, prevention, at cure sa genetic factors ng obesity gaya ng metabolic syndrome. | ulat ni Lorenz Tanjoco
