Lusot na sa House Committee on Youth and Sports Development ang House Bill 3523 na layong bigyan ng benepisyo ang retiradong Filipino Olympians.
Ayon kay Batangas Rep. Eric Buhain, vice chair ng komite at naging pambato ng Pilipinas sa dalawang Olympic games, ang pagbibigay benepisyo at pribilehiyo sa mga retiradong Filipino Olympians ay paraan ng pagpapakita ng pagkilala sa karangalang ibinigay nila sa bansa.
“The proposed law aims to rectify the situation by recognizing the retired Filipino Olympians’ exceptional service and providing essentials that benefit them. By caring, we honor their legacy and help them continue giving inspiration for future generations. In addition, we are ensuring their transition from the podium to a dignified and secure life,” sabi ni Buhain.
Kabilang sa mga benepisyo ang automatic PhilHealth membership, libreng pagamot sa pampublikong ospital, at kung sa pribado naman, ang gastos na hindi sagot ng PhilHealth ay sasagutin ng PCSO.
Pagsapit ng edad 50, makatatanggap din ang retired Olympians ng buwanang pensyon na nagkakahalaga ng hindi bababa sa P15,000.
Sakaling mamatay naman, makakatanggap ng P50,000 na death benefit ang dependents nito.
Ang mga benepisyong ito ay maliban pa sa natatanggap nila salig sa National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
