Kapwa nagkasundo ang House leaders at miyembro ng Young Guns na panahon nang maibaba ang presyo ng kuryente para sa benepisyo ng lahat ng Pilipino.
Sa isang kalatas sinabi nina Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales Jr., Deputy Speaker David Suarez, at House Majority Leader Mannix Dalipe at mga mambabatas na bahagi ng Young Guns na kanilang sinusuportahan ang pahayag ni Speaker Martin Romualdez na isailalim sa komprehensibong pagrepaso ang Electric Power Industry Regulation Act (EPIRA) upang mapababa ang presyo ng kuryente at makamit ang seguridad sa enerhiya para sa bansa.
“We fully support this move by our leader in the House. If we can finally reduce the cost of electricity, this would be one of the legacies of our Speaker and the chamber he heads,” saad ng mga mambabatas.
Kasama ang amyenda sa EPIRA sa 28 panukalang tinukoy sa Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) na dapat mapagtibay bago magtapos ang 19th Congress sa Hunyo 2025.
Katunayan, napapanahon anila ang diskusyon sa pagpapababa ng singil sa kuryente lalo na at nakasalang rin sa Kamara ang Franchise Renewal Bill ng Meralco.
“Let’s examine how Meralco can support the Marcos administration in reducing its power distribution rates. It’s time we alleviate or at least lessen the suffering of our people. Congress should address the issues created by the EPIRA Law,” sabi ng mga mambabatas.
Kapwa ipununto ng mga lider ng Kamara at Young Guns na kung maibaba ang presyo ng kuryente ay magreresulta ito sa pag-unlad ng ekonomiya.
“The expansion of our economy has long been hobbled by high electricity rates. This problem has consistently been one of the top concerns of the business community since the enactment of EPIRA,” sabi nila.
Naniniwala rin ang mga kongresista na magsisilbi itong legasiya ng 19th Congress lalo at hindi ito naisakatuparan ng nakaraang Kongreso.
