Matapos hingin sa Kongreso ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa kaniyang State of the Nation Address (SONA), agad pinagtibay ng House Committee on Ways and Means ang Loss and Damage Fund Board Law.
Sa pamamagitan ng panukala ay mabibigyan ng juridical status at privileges ang Loss and Damage Fund Board.
Matatandaan na nakuha ng Pilipinas ang pagiging host ng LDF maliban pa sa pagkakaroon ng pwesto dito.
Sinabi ni Ways and Means Committee Chair Joey Salceda na maituturing itong panalo para sa mga developing country gaya ng Pilipinas na lantad sa epekto ng malalaking industrialised na bansa.
Sa pamamagitan nito ay mabibigyang access ang bansa sa financial resources para sa climate change adaptation and mitigation measures.
“The principle of loss and damage was a hard-won victory for developing countries like the Philippines. Having been a member of various Philippine delegations to the Conference of Parties or COP, I, alongside many climate experts in the Philippines, fought to have developed and industrialized countries acknowledge that there are losses and damages that can no longer be addressed by mitigation and adaptation – and should thus be compensated by those who benefited from emissions the most,” giit ng mambabatas. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
