Sa pinaigting na kampanya kontra iligal na sigarilyo ay apat na malalaking manufacturers ang sinalakay ng Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) sa Clark, Pampanga.
Sa ulat ni BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr., sabay-sabay na sinalakay ng BIR noong September 12 ang apat na malalaking pagawaan ng iligal na sigarilyo kung saan umabot sa ₱8-billion ang inisyal na naitalang tax liability.
Ayon sa BIR, ito na ang pinakamalaking operasyon laban sa iligal na sigarilyo batay sa kabuuang buwis na hindi nababayaran.
Giit ni Comm. Lumagui, patuloy na hahabulin ng BIR ang lahat ng mga sangkot sa illicit cigarettes, ito man ay maliliit na nagbebenta o smugglers hanggang sa mga large-scale manufacturers.
“This ₱8-billion raid in Clark, Pampanga shows that the BIR targets even large-scale manufacturers of illicit cigarettes, not just small-scale dealers or smugglers. The BIR supports the call of President Bongbong Marcos to eradicate illicit tobacco trade. The BIR will do its share to protect the livelihood of legitimate tobacco farmers,” ani Commissioner Lumagui.
Posible namang maharap ang apat na manufacturers sa National Internal Revenue Code (NIRC). Kabilang dito ang paglabag sa Seksyon 263, Unlawful Possession or Removal of Articles Subject to Excise Tax Without Payment of the Tax; Seksyon 265-B, Violations Committed by Manufacturers, Importers, Indentors, and Wholesalers of Any Apparatus or Mechanical Contrivance Specially for the Manufacture of Articles Subject to Excise Tax; Seksyon 260, Unlawful Possession of Cigarette Paper in Bobbins or Rolls, Etc.; Seksyon 255, Failure to File Return, Supply Correct and Accurate Information, Pay Tax Withhold and Remit Tax and Refund Excess Taxes Withheld on Compensation; Seksyon 254, Attempt to Evade or Defeat Tax; Seksyon 145, Cigars and Cigarettes; at Seksyon 236, Registration Requirements ng NIRC. | ulat ni Merry Ann Bastasa
