Nakikiisa si Speaker Martin Romualdez sa pagbubunyi sa matagumpay na pakikipag negosasyon ng pamahalaan sa Indonesia para mapauwi si Mary Jane Veloso.
Ayon kay Speaker Romualdez, kapuri-puri ang pagsusulong ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ng diplomasya upang mapauwi ang ating kababayan na 14 na taon nang nakulong sa Indonesia, dahil sa drug trafficking.
Sabi pa ng Leyte first district solon, ipinapakita lang nito ang commitment ng presidente para protektahan ang karapatan ng mga OFW.
Katunayan, noon aniyang 42nd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits noong 2023 ay inapela ni Pangulong Marcos sa Indonesia ang pardon, commutation at extradition ni Veloso para sa Pilipinas na isilbi ang kaniyang sintensya.
“I commend President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for his resolute leadership and compassionate heart in bringing Mary Jane home. This achievement highlights the President’s firm commitment to protecting and upholding the rights of our overseas Filipino workers, even in the most difficult of circumstances. Kinilala din ng House leader ang pagpupursigi ng pamilya Veloso at iba pang advocates para maisalba ang buhay ni Veloso na nasa death row.
Nagpasalamat din si Romualdez sa Indonesian government.

Aminado naman ang House Speaker, na sa kabila ng magandang balita sa kaso ni Veloso ay marami pang hamong kinakaharap ang mga OFW, partikular na sa exploitation o pananamantala ng mga mga recruiter at criminal syndicates.
Dahil dito, tiniyak ni Romualdez na patuloy na isusulong ang mga polisiya para sa proteksyon ng migrant workers.
Umaasa rin siya na magsilbi si Veloso ng kahalagahan na pangalagaan ang karapatan at dignidad ng mga OFW.
