Pinagkakasa ni Albay Representative Joey Salceda ang House Committee on Transportation ng β€œinquiry in aid of legislation” tungkol sa iba’t ibang posibleng epekto ng plano ng gobyerno na β€œjeepney phaseout.”

Sa inihaing House Resolution 801, ipinunto ng mambabatas ang kahalagahang matukoy ang β€œadverse socioeconomic impacts” ng pagpapatupad sa Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Memorandum Circular no. 2023-13 kung saan tuluyan nang aalisin ang mga tradiyonal na jeep.

Ani Salceda, hindi ikinonsidera ng naturang kautusan na sa mga probinsya ang jeep ang pangunahing paraan ng pampublikong transportasyon.

Pinuna rin nito ang kawalan ng impact at contingency analysis sa magiging epekto ng kautusan sa 96,000 na tradisyonal na jeep na mawawalan ng prangkisa.

Paalala pa ng House Tax chief na sa kasagsagan ng COVID-19 pandemic ang sektor ng mga jeep ay kabilang sa pinakatinamaan kung saan umabot ng β‚±102-billion ang nawalang β€œPUJ revenues” dahil sa serye ng mga lockdown.

Kung tuluyan rin aniyang ipahihinto ang operasyon ng mga tradisyonal na jeep, nasa 11.5 million na mga pasahero ng PUJ kada araw ang maaaring maaapektuhan.
