Pinapurihan ni Camarines Sur Representative LRay Villafuerte ang desisyon ng pamahalaan na palawigin ng tatlong buwan ang SIM Registration, mula sa orihinal na deadline na April 26.
Aniya, dahil sa hakbang na ito ay maiiwasan ang ‘digital disenfranchisement’ ng nasa halos 100 million pang SIM owners na hindi nakakapagparehistro.
Kung hindi kasi aniya napalawig ang registration period made-deactivate ang SIM cards ng mga hindi nakapagparehistro, at mawawalan ng access sa mahahalagang digital apps gaya ng mobile wallets at mobile banking.
Hinimok naman ni Villafuerte ang Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) at public telecommunications entity, na samantalahin ang 90-day extension para palakasin ang kanilang registration drive lalo na sa mga malalayong lugar, at ayusin ang ilan sa mga nagpapabalam sa registration gaya ng identification requirements.
“Hence, we welcome this decision to extend the registration deadline by 90 days as this 3-month grace period would give the DICT, NTC (National Telecommunications Commission) and PTEs (public telecommunications entities) time to further intensify their list-up drives from hereon and for the government to fix hitches such as stringent identification requirements, weak or no connectivity and other digital challenges believed behind the low registry turnout,” ani Villafuerte. | ulat ni Kathleen Forbes
