Dadagdagan ng Estados Unidos ang $82-milyong dolyar na kanilang unang inilaan para sa limang orihinal na Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) sites.

Ito ang Inihayag ng US Department of Defense (DOD) kasunod ng pag-anunsyo kahapon ng Malacañang ng mga lokasyon ng apat na panibagong EDCA sites.

Ayon sa DOD, ang karagdagang pamumuhanan sa mga EDCA sites ay hindi lang pangsuporta sa “alliance commitments,” kundi makatutulong din sa lokal na ekonomiya.

Sinabi ng DOD na makikipagtulungan sila sa Department of National Defense (DND) ng Pilipinas para mapabilis ang pagsulong ng mga modernization projects sa mga tinukoy na lugar.

Ang mga ito ay ang: Naval Base Camilo Osias sa Santa Ana, Cagayan; Camp Melchor Dela Cruz sa Gamu, Isabela; Balabac Island sa Palawan; at Lal-lo Airport in Cagayan.

Sinabi pa ng DOD na ang mga bagong lokasyon ay magpapalakas sa interoperability ng Armed Forces ng dalawang bansa, na magpapahintulot sa mas mabilis na pagresponde sa mga hamon sa rehiyon, kabilang ang pagtugon sa mga natural na kalamidad. | ulat ni Leo Sarne
