Nakahanap ng kakampi ang public telecommunications entities (PTE) kay Camarines Sur Representative LRay Villafuerte para sa panawagang palawigin ang SIM registration.
Sa April 26 na kasi ang deadline para sa pagpaparehistro ng SIM cards ngunit mayroong pa ring tinatayang 100 million subscribers ang hindi pa nakakapag-parehistro.
Ayon kay Villafuerte salig sa SIM Registration Act maaaring i-extend ng hanggang 120 days o apat na buwan ang SIM registration.
“It is time for the DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology) and NTC (National Telecommunications Commission) to seriously consider extending the registration period for, say, a month or two, as less than 40% of the nearly 168 million SIM numbers believed in the possession of subscribers have been reported to PTEs (public telecommunications entities) with less than two weeks to go before the April 26 deadline set by law,” diin ni Villafuerte.
Una nang hiniling ng Globe at Smart ang extension sa registration period dahil sa mababang turnout.
Hanggang April 11, mayroon lamang 66.21 million na SIM ang nairehistro mula sa kabuuang 168.977 million sa buong bansa.
Isa sa nagiging balakid dito ay ang kawalan ng kinakailangang government identification o ID requirement.
Kaya umaapela rin si Villafuerte na pahintulutan ang pagtanggap sa company o school ID ng mga magpaparehistro. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
