Maituturing na historic at mabunga ang naging pulong sa pagitan ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez at US Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Makasaysayan aniya ito, dahil ito unang beses na nagkadiyalogo ang House Speakers ng dalawang bansa matapos ang ilang taon.
Produktibo din aniya ito lalo at napagtibay ang relasyon ng dalawang bansa, lalo na pagdating sa defense and security at ekonomiya.
“Our meeting proved fruitful as the Philippine delegation managed to impress on Speaker McCarthy the need for the legislative representatives of the two countries to ramp up discussions on how to further boost US-Philippine relations…Philippine-US relations remain strong. Our security alliance under the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty is ironclad. Our economic partnership is robust. And the friendship between our two peoples is solid,” diin ni Romualdez.
Kasabay nito ay inimbitahan ni Romualdez ang kaniyang US counterpart na pumunta ng Pilipinas at makibahagi sa Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), kung saan tayo ang host country.
Positibo naman ang Leyte 1st District solon na malinaw ang naging mensahe ng Pilipinas sa US legislators, na lalo pang pagtibayin at palalimin ang matagal nang relasyon sa pagitan ng US at Pilipinas lalo na sa ilalim ng Marcos Jr at Biden administration. | ulat ni Kathleen Forbes
