Ilang mambabatas sa Kamara ang nagtutulak na makapasok ang mas maraming highly skilled professional sa Philippine National Police (PNP) sa pamamagitan ng lateral entry program.
Sa ilalim ng House Bill 7686 na inihain nina Davao City Representative Paolo Duterte, Benguet Rep. Eric Yap at ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Edvic Yap ay ipinapanukalang amyendahan ang Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Law, upang mapalawak ang lateral entry program.
Sakaling maisabatas, ang mga propesyonal gaya ng engineers, chemists, criminologists, dentists, molecular biologists, naval architects, at nuclear physicists ay maaari nang makapasok sa PNP.
Kasama rin sa mga professional ang graduate ng guidance and counseling, sports medicine, veterinary medicine; medical technologists, nurses, nutritionists and dieticians, optometrists, physical therapists, psychologists, psychometricians, social workers, IT professionals, at graduates of forensic sciences
Bibigyan naman sila ng ranggong Police Lieutenant sakaling makapasok.
Naniniwala si Duterte na makatutulong ang panukala upang mas maging epektibo ang PNP sa pagtugon nito laban sa mga krimen.
