Pinuri ng Commission on Human Rights (CHR) ang paglulunsad ng Quezon City local government ng ‘right to care’ card para sa mga miyembro ng Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA) community.
Sa pamamagitan nito, maaari nang magdesisyon patungkol sa kanilang kalusugan ang LGBTQIA couples para sa kanilang partners sa pamamagitan ng Special Power of Attorney (SPA).
Inisyal na ilulunsad ito sa tatlong pampublikong hospital sa lungsod kabilang ang Novaliches General Hospital, Rosario Maclang Bautista General Hospital, at Quezon City General Hospital.
Ayon sa CHR, nakakabilib ang inisyatibong ito ng pamahalaang lungsod na nagtataguyod ng pantay na karapatan para sa lahat maging sa access sa healthcare ng mga LGBTQIA.
Maituturing aniya na isang ‘monumental step’ ang right to care card para magkaroon ng karapatan ang LGBTQIA couples sa medical decisions tuwing sila ay naoospital.
Magiging tugon din ito para mawala na ang
exclusion, diskriminasyon, at denial of information na hinaharap ng mga miyembro ng LGBTQIA.
“It recognizes their unique and intimate knowledge of their partner’s preferences, needs, medical history, support, among others The initiative also guarantees that the partner is kept abreast about their loved one’s condition and progres, which helps ensure information access and confidentiality,” tugon ng CHR.
Umaasa naman ang CHR na maging inspirasyon ang naging inisyatibo ng Quezon City LGU sa iba pang lungsod sa pagtataguyod ng mga proyekto at polisiya para sa LGBTQIA community.
Patuloy rin ang panawagan ng komisyon na maisabatas na ang Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Gender Expression, or Sex Characteristics (SOGIESC) Equality bill.
“The Commission continues to emphasize the need for legislation that protects and ensures the rights of individuals belonging to the LGBTQI community.
