Media Information Literacy program ng PCO, popondohan ng ₱19-M para labanan ang fake news

Nasa ₱19-million ang ipinapanukalang pondo ng Presidential Communications Office (PCO) para sa ikakasang Media Information Literacy panlaban sa fake news at misinformation.

Ayon kay PCO Undersecretary Emerald Ridao, bahagi ng programa ang paglulunsad ng MIL Summit sa Oktubre kasabay ng Media Information Literacy Month at Communications Month.

Dito, magsasagawa ng workshop ang PCO katuwang ang private sector partners gaya ng Google, Meta, Tiktok, at X (Twitter) kasama ang mga youth organizations, teachers, at iba pang sector para mapalakas ang kanilang media literacy at maging responsible sa pagsala ng mga impormasyon.

Magkakaroon din ng Campus Caravan sa mga state universities and colleges sa buong taon na plano aniya nilang isabay sa inilunsad na Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fair na ikinasa ng Kamara.

Dagdag pa ni Usec. Ridao isasailalim din sa training ang mga guro at estudyante sa higher education isntitutions gamit ang media literacy modules upang malinang sila sa pagtukoy ng valid at totoong impormasyon.

Matapos ang youth sector ay sisimulan din aniya ng PCO ang media literacy sa mga senior citizen.

Para naman mapalakas pa lalo ang laban kontra fake news, iminungkahi ni Appropriations Vice-Chair Janette Garin na ilaan ng bawat ahensya ng pamahalaan ang 1% ng kanilang Gender and Development Project sa media literacy programs katuwang ang PCO.

Isa naman sa suhestyon ni Albay Repeesentative Edcel Lagman ay mag-draft ang PCO ng isang panukala kung saan ipapaloob ang pagtuturo ng media literacy sa Basic Education hanggang Tertiary Curriculum.
