Mga mambabatas, nais taasan ang pondo ng DOT sa susunod na taon

Ilang mambabatas ang nagsusulong na dagdagan ang pondo ng Department of Tourism (DOT) sa susunod na taon.

Batay sa 2024 National Expenditure Program (NEP) may P2.6 billion na budget ang DOT para sa susunod na taon, mas mababa kumpara sa kasalukuyang P3.4 billion 2023 budget.

Ayon kay Deputy Minority Leader Bernadette Herrera, hindi makatwiran ang naturang budget decrease lalo at naghahabol pa rin ang ahensya para makamit ang pre-pandemic level ng tourist arrivals.

“I’m concerned with the decrease of the budget of the DOT, especially since as mentioned, P3.5 million visitors—while, of course it’s higher than last year–but it’s still far away from, our 2019 and pre-pandemic levels of 8.6 million tourists,” sabi ni Herrera.

Ganito rin ang punto ni Bohol Rep. Edgar Chatto. Aniya, maaaring mabalam ang mga inilatag na hakbang ng DOT para mapasigla muli ang turismo sa bansa matapos ang COVID-19 pandemic.

Mismong si Albay 1st District Rep. Edcel Lagman naman ang nanawagan sa mga kasamahang mambabatas, na sa tamang oras ay madagdagan ang budget ng DOT o kung hindi man ay maibalik ito sa kasalukuyang budget level.

“I am concluding my short intervention with the hope that, at the proper time, with the approval of the majority, we can increase the budget of the [DOT] if not to equal this current level (…) in recognition of its performance,” hirit ni Lagman. | ulat ni Kathleen Forbes
