Inatasan ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) na magsagawa ng structural assessment sa gusali ng Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), na kabilang sa mga napinsala ng tumamang lindol sa Surigao del Sur.

“The forecast has become more and more important. Forecasting has become even more important than it always was, that’s why tama ‘yung concern na kailangang mayroon tayo – kung mayroon talagang Doppler radar dun ginagamit for the forecasting that should be operational,” —Pangulong Marcos.

“Have a look at it kasi very important ‘yan for the forecasting. Para at least may warnings tayo when these things happen. Mayroon tayong warning na may parating na heavy rains, low pressure area,” President Marcos told DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, who present during the briefing.

“Hindi ba dati, kapag sinabing may bagyong parating mayroon tayong three to four days ‘di ba, three to five days, tapos sasabihin level … ang typhoon signal number 2 lang, number 3, kayang-kaya iyan. Ngayon, iba na. And this was like Odette [unclear] was the same … Yolanda actually was the one that started it. Kapag sabi may low pressure area, ano lang iyan, typhoon signal number one or two lang iyan. Within 24 hours, iyong Odette ay naging five. Within 24 hours, and that’s the new phenomenon that we have to face. That’s why forecasting has become even more important than it always was.” —Pangulong Marcos.
