Team Philippines is projected to deliver a ‘golden haul’ in the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and surpass its previous four-gold harvest in the 2023 competition.
Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham Tolentino named a handful of gold medal prospects, among them are tennis star Alex Eala, reigning pole vault champion EJ Obiena, Olympian swimmer Kayla Sanchez, gymnastics siblings Carlos and Eldrew Yulo, and boxer Carlo Paalam.
The Philippines has won four gold medals each in the last two editions of the games Hangzhou three years ago and in Indonesia in 2018.
Records show the country posted its most successful campaign during its hosting in 1954 when it bagged 14 gold medals, followed by seven in 1962 and five in its Asian Games debut in 1951.
With just a month to go before the Aichi-Nagoya Games, 450 Filipino athletes from 38 sports have been already confirmed in the list submitted to AINAGOC.
