Alex Eala bounced back against Oleksandra Oliynykova of Ukraine, 6-1, 6-4, to advance to the third round of the US Open at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Flushing Meadows, New York on Friday morning (Manila time).
The Filipina tennis star relied on a 4-0 lead in the first set before pulling away from a 3-3 deadlock for a 5-3 advantage in the second set to finish the match in just one hour and four minutes.
Eala was more aggressive this time compared when they first met in May during the first round of the International Strasbourg in France, where the Ukrainian player rallied to win, 6-3, 5-7, 3-6.
The No. 17 seed Eala cruised to her best finish at the US Open so far after only reaching the second round last year.
Eala is bracing for a gigantic task in the third round as she is set to face her close friend Iva Jovic from the USA for the third time.
Jovic advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against British Francesca Jones.
In their past two meetings , the 14th seeded Amercian defeated Eala twice.
Jovic prevailed in the first round of the French Open and in the round of 16 of the HSBC Championships in London.
