Olympic deja vu.
Just like what he did in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Carlos Yulo became a double-gold medalist in the 20th Asian Games.
He displayed breathtaking stunt and acrobatic abilities to top the men’s artistic gymnastics vault event with a total of 14.599 points on Tuesday at the Nagoya General Gymnasium, barely 24 hours when he put the Philippines on the gold medal board by ruling the floor exercise.
Yulo had some tense moments as Mahdi Olfati gave him a scare after the Iranian registered 15.100 points in his first try.
The Filipino finally shook off his nerves as Olfati only scored 13.966 in his second vault to finish as the silver medalist with 14.533 points in total.
Ka Ki Ng of Hong Kong clinched the bronze with accumulated 14.116 points.
Yulo tuned out the noise after almost missing the vault final after stumbling in his first try in the qualification round where he finished in seventh place.
He can wrap up his successful Asiad stint with three golds on his chest if he wins the parallel bars later in the day.
Meanwhile, Juancho Miguel Besana ended up fifth with 13.783 points.
Karl Eldrew Yulo is vying for a medal in the men’s horizontal bar.
