Owa Retamar is back to Alas Pilipinas duties as the team’s main setter in the 20th Asian Games men’s volleyball competition.
The 24-year-old playmaker became the last-minute replacement for Greg Ancheta, based on the updated roster listed at the Games’ website.
The Nationals got a major boost in setting up plays as Retamar’s professional club team ORDU in Azerbaijan allowed him to represent the Philippines.
With the former NU Bulldog’s addition, Italian head coach Angiolino Frigoni is now banking on the core of Alas Men players who played in the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.
Those include Bryan Bagunas, Marck Espejo, Josh Ybañez, Leo Ordiales, Peng Taguibolos, Lloyd Josafat, and Buds Buddin.
Adrian Villados, Al Bukharie Sali, Jude Garcia, and Kristofer Alejos complete the national team which is aiming for its gold medal in the quadrennial event.
Alas Men will begin their campaign in Pool D against South Korea this coming Sunday before taking on China and Chinese Taipei on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
