Mahalaga na maipagpatuloy ang operasyon ng power distribution company na MERALCO para lalo pang lumago ang ekonomiya ng bansa.
Ito ang binigyang-diin ngayon ni Cagayan de Oro Representative Rufus Rodriguez kasabay ng muling pagtalakay ng Housee Committee on Legislative Franchises sa panukalang franchise renewal ng MERALCO.
Ayon kay Rodriguez, isa sa may akda ng isa sa tatlong franchise renewal bill, kailangan ng isang maasahan, sapat, at episyenteng electricity service upang magtuloy-tuloy ang takbo ng mga negosyo.
“By granting it its franchise renewal, Congress is ensuring the welfare of those currently being serviced by MERALCO of continuously benefiting and enjoying affordable, efficient, adequate, and reliable power,” saad ng mambabatas.
Sinang-ayunan din ng mambabatas ang pahayag ng Laban Konsyumer Inc. na nagsasabi na ang patuloy na operasyon ng MERALCO ay titiyak sa stable na kuryente hindi lang sa Metro Manila kundi pati sa iba pang high-growth areas.
Sinabi ng CDO solon na ang MERALCO ang may pinakamalawak na serbisyo sa buong bansa kaya nga aniya maraming LGU ang kumukuha ng serbisyo ng naturang power distributor.
“I need not underscore the fact and the numbers are there if one were to care to check that MERALCO has the highest level of service in the country as far as electricity distribution is concerned. This is the reason why many LGUs (local government units) have asked Meralco to take over so it can bring its level of service to many areas deprived of reliable electricity,” sabi ni Rodriguez.
Kasabay nito ay pinurii ng LKI ang pagkakaroon ng MERALCO ng competitive selection process (CSP) na isang paraan para sa isang bukas at hayag na bidding process para sa kapakanan ng mga customer nito.
“We strongly support MERALCO’s series of CSPs. Power contracts secured through CSP, ensure supply will come from reputable and reliable sources, which help ensure stable and affordable electricity supply for consumers in the years to come,” saad ng grupo. | ulat ni Kathleen Jean Forbes
