Pangulong Marcos Jr., nanawagan ng suporta sa world leaders para sa Loss and Damage Fund sa COP 28

Ipinanawagan ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa harap ng world leaders ang agarang pagiging operational ng Loss and Damage Fund, na layong suportahan ang developing at vulnerable countries mula sa impact ng Climate Change.

Sa naging talumpati ng pangulo sa COP 28 Summit na binasa ni Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr., humiling ng suporta ang pangulo sa bid ng Pilipinas na maging host para sa pondong ito.

“We urge partners from the private sector, civil society, partner countries and governments, and developing funding institutions to support the Philippines in this bid. You have been there for meaningful collaboration with our government to tackle the climate crises,” —Pangulong Marcos.

Ipinunto ng pangulo ang tulong na maibibigay ng pondong ito sa pagtugon ng developing countries sa nararanasang tagtuyot, pagbaha, at pagtaas ng sea-levels, na pinalalala ng pagbabago ng panahon.

“The Philippines’ call for the immediate operationalization of this Fund to assist developing and vulnerable countries to respond to droughts, floods, and rising sea levels exacerbated by climate change,” —Pangulong Marcos.

Binigyang diin ng pangulo na ang Pilipinas, palaging isa sa mga pinakaapektadong bansa, sa epekto ng Climate Change.

“More than just an environmental issue; for us, it is a matter of survival, of justice, and of protecting the rights of our people. Thus, the Philippine Development Plan sealed the national development priorities on accelerating climate action and establishing sustainable and livable cities,” he said.

Nasa Php453.11 billion aniya ang inilaan ng Pilipinas para sa climate change adaptation at mitigation measures ng bansa para sa 2023, habang Php889.65 million ang ibinigay sa LGUs para sa climate change adaptation programs and projects, sa ilalim ng People’s Survival Fund.

Bukod sa paglalaan ng sapat na pondo para sa pagtugong ito, isinusulong na rin aniya ng bansa ang low-carbon development.

“We are on track towards achieving a 35-percent renewable energy share in the power generation mix by 2023 through policy reforms that allow more investors for offshore wind and floating solar.
