Pinuri ni House Committee on Aquaculture and Fisheries Resources Chair Brian Yamsuan ang hakbang ng Department of Agriculture (DA) na i-black list ang mga importer na sangkot sa pagpupuslit o smuggling ng agri products.

Aniya, sa pagpupuslit pa lang ng isda ay pinapatay na agad ang kabuhayan ng maliit na mangingisda at inilalagay pa sa alanganin ang kaligtasan ng mga consumer.

Dapat naman ani Yamsuan na sundan ito ng pagsasampa ng kaso.

Maaari kasi aniya na gumamit lang ng dummy company ang naturang importers at maipagpatuloy ang iligal na gawain.

“We will await the action of the Department of Agriculture on this matter. We are counting on Agriculture Secretary (Francisco Tiu) Laurel (Jr.) to make his move soon against these suspected smugglers,” sabi ni Yamsuan.

Nasa apat na importer na sinasabing sangkot sa economic sabotage ang planong i-black list ng DA, isa rito ay importer ng bigas, dalawa ay sa isda at ang isa ay sa asukal.

“Blacklisting erring agricultural importers should not be the DA’s only measure against them. If there is enough evidence, then criminal cases should be hurled against them in court,” giit ni Yamsuan.

Paalala ng mambabatas, na sa ilalim ng batas ang mga sangkot sa economic sabotage ay mapaparusahan ng habang buhay na pagkakakulong at multa na doble sa halaga ng ipinuslit na produkto kasama ang buwis, dutes at iba pang charges.

Umaasa naman ang kinatawan na mapagtibay na bilang batas ang panukalang Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act, na magpapataw ng mas mabigat na parusa hindi na lang sa smuggling ngunit maging sa hoarding at profiteering ng agricultural products. | ulat ni Kathleen Forbes
