Siniguro ng Marcos Administration na tatalima ang pamahalaan sa ano mang kondisyon na itatakda ng Indonesia, upang mailipat na ng detention facility si Mary Jane Veloso, mula Indonesia patungong Pilipinas.
Si Veloso ang OFW na nasa death row sa Indonesia simula pa noong taong 2010, dahil sa kasong drug trafficking.
Sa inilabas na pahayag ng Department of Justice (DOJ) at Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), nakasaad na obligado ang pamahalaan na kilalanin ang kondisyong ilalatag ng Indonesia para sa pagsasakatuparan ng paglipat na ito.
“On the transfer of Mary Jane Veloso from the Indonesian government to the Philippines, we are bound to honor the conditions that would be set for the transfer, particularly the service of sentence by Mary Jane in the Philippines, save the death penalty which is prohibited under our laws.” —DOJ/DFA
Hindi lamang kabilang dito ang execution o bitay, dahil ipinagbabawal ito sa batas ng Pilipinas.
“When Mary Jane is transferred to PH, the effective result is that her sentence becomes simply life imprisonment since there is no death penalty in the Philippines.” —DOJ
Ayon sa pamahalaan, sa kasalukuyan, patuloy na pinaplansta ang lalamanin ng kondisyon sa paglipat ng physical custody ni Veloso.
