DSWD, pinangunahan ang ASEAN Social Work Day 2025

Pinangunahan ngayong araw ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) ang pagdiriwang ng ASEAN Social Work Day 2025 na nakatutok sa mahalagang papel ng mga social worker tuwing panahon ng kalamidad.

Present dito si DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian at mga opisyal mula sa iba’t ibang member states ng ASEAN at United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). 

Ang tema ng pagdiriwang ay “Recognizing the Vital Role of Social Workers in DRRCR,” na naglalayong ipakita ang mahalagang papel ng mga social worker bilang unang tumutugon sa mga panahon ng sakuna. 

Sa kanyang mensahe, ipinunto ni DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian ang kahalagahan na kilalanin ang mga social worker na nagbibigay ng serbisyo at pag-asa sa mga pamilyang apektado ng kalamidad tulad ng bagyo, pagbaha, at iba pang emergency. 

Tiniyak naman ni DSWD Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao ang patuloy na suporta sa mga social worker sa Pilipinas kabilang ang 9,000 ‘angels in red vest’ sa pamamagitan ng capacity building tulad ng DSWD Academy.

Kasama naman sa tampok sa ASEAN Social Work Day ang paglulunsad ng Regional Guidance na layong unawain ang papel ng mga social worker sa mas pinalawak na social service workforce sa disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate resilience and climate change adaptations (CCA); at palakasin ang suporta sa mga social worker.  | ulat ni Merry Ann Bastasa
