In pursuit of continued modernization, the Armed Forces of the Philippines welcomed its newest and most advanced naval asset, the BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-06), in a formal ceremony today at the Naval Operating Base in Subic, Zambales.
The event, which underscores the AFP’s commitment to strengthening its defense capabilities, was graced by key figures including Department of National Defense Secretary Gilberto C Teodoro Jr.; South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines His Excellency Lee Sang-Hwa; AFP Chief of Staff, General Romeo S Brawner Jr.; Philippine Navy Flag Officer in Command, Vice Admiral Jose Ma Ambrosio Q Ezpeleta, and the Commander of the BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-06), Captain Paul Michael P Hechanova.
The arrival of the BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-06) is a significant step under Horizon 2 of the Revised AFP Modernization Program (RAFPMP), which prioritizes the enhancement of the country’s naval defense capabilities amidst evolving regional security dynamics.
Designed to serve as a force multiplier, the BRP Miguel Malvar (FFG-06) is expected to boost the operational readiness and maritime capabilities of the AFP. It will play a critical role in protecting the nation’s territorial integrity and advancing maritime domain awareness.
