Higit 500,000 MT ng imported rice darating ngayong buwan ng Disyembre hanggang Pebrero

Humigit-kumulang 76,000 metric tons ng bigas mula sa Taiwan at India ang inaasahang darating sa bansa ngayong buwan ng Disyembre at sa unang bahagi ng Enero.

Nauna nang nagsimulang dumating ang mga butil na inangkat ng private sector bilang paghahanda sa masamang epekto ng El Niño weather phenomenon.

Sinabi ni Department of Agriculture (DA) Undersecretary Engr. Roger V. Navarro, Officer-in-Charge for Operations, na halos kalahating milyong metric tons ng bigas na inangkat ng pribadong sektor ay darating sa pagitan ng Disyembre at unang bahagi ng Pebrero.

Bilang pagsunod ito sa kasunduan sa pagitan ni Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel, Jr. at holders ng rice import permits.

Sinabi ni Navarro, kabuuang 20,000 bags na katumbas ng 1,000 metric tons ng bigas ang naihatid na  bago ang araw ng Pasko na unang batch ng 40,000 bags ng bigas na donasyon ng Taiwan.

Sa loob ng huling linggo ng Disyembre at unang bahagi ng Enero, may 75,000 metric tons ng bigas ang darating mula sa India.

Sabi pa ni Navarro, sa pagdating ng imported rice at dami ng inaani ng mga magsasaka nitong mga nakaraang buwan magkakaroon ng sapat na suplay ng bigas ang bansa hanggang sa susunod na ani sa Marso.

Nabatid na ang national rice consumption ng bansa ay humigit-kumulang 36,000 metric tons kada araw o humigit-kumulang 1.08 million tons kada buwan. | ulat ni Rey Ferrer
