Paris Olympics double gold medalist Carlos Edriel Yulo made a special appearance at the House of Representatives during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday.
Following the event, the Filipino gymnastics star expressed his appreciation for the government’s recognition of the importance of sports and Filipino athletes.
In a Facebook post, Yulo said he hopes the country’s support for sports development will continue, particularly in creating more opportunities for young athletes to pursue their dreams.
“Isang karangalan po ang makadalo sa State of the Nation Address (SONA) ngayong taon. Nakakatuwa pong marinig ang pagbibigay kahalagahan sa sports at sa mga atletang Pilipino. Sana po ay magpatuloy ang suporta sa pagpapaunlad ng sports sa ating bansa, para po mas marami pang kabataan ang mahikayat na mangarap, magsumikap, at ipakita ang ating talento,” said Yulo.
“Proud to continue representing the Philippines. Para sa bayan,” he added.
Yulo’s presence at the SONA underscored the growing recognition of Filipino athletes whose dedication, perseverance, and excellence continue to inspire the nation.
The Olympic champion cemented his place in Philippine sports history after winning two gold medals in the men’s artistic gymnastics floor exercise and vault events at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
