Batas na sumasaklaw sa vote buying, kailangan nang amyendahan — COMELEC

Naniniwala ang Commission on Elections (COMELEC) na napanahon na upang maamyendahan ang batas na sumasaklaw sa “vote buying.”

Ito ang inihayag ni COMELEC Chairperson George Erwin Garcia, kasabay ng paglagda nila ng Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) sa Philippine National Police (PNP) at Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), para sa latag ng seguridad sa Barangay at SK elections (BSKE).

Ayon kay Garcia, kailangang maiangkop ang batas sa pagbabago ng panahon lalo’t nag-iiba na rin ang mukha ng vote buying gamit ang makabagong teknolohiya.

Salig kasi sa Batas Pambansa 881 o ang Omnibus Election Code, maituturing na vote buying o vote selling kung may pisikal na pera na kasama subalit hindi nito saklaw ang electronic o e-wallet, mobile banking at money transfers.

Kaya naman puspusan na ang pagbalangkas ng COMELEC ng mga panuntunan hinggil sa vote buying, sinabi ni Garcia na mainam pa rin kung maaamyendahan ang umiiral na batas upang tiyak na mapanagot ang sinumang lalabag dito. | ulat ni Jaymark Dagala
