Cebuano triathlete Matthew Justine Hermosa is aiming to end his four-year silver-medal streak at the 2026 National Age Group Triathlon Series (NAGT), set from October 24-25 in Camotes Island, Cebu.
The two-time Southeast Asian Games mixed relay team gold medalist told Sports Radio 918 that his preparations have been going well following back-to-back races.
“It’s been going quite well naman po. After a few races, back to back naman po. I think I have prepared well enough din naman for the upcoming race na,” said the 21-year-old Talisay City native.
Hermosa, who will compete in the elite standard-distance duathlon on October 24 before the sprint-distance triathlon on October 25, said this will be his first time racing in Camotes Island.
“Actually, it’s my first time as well in Camotes din po. And I’m very excited to race there kasi it is a very nice place,” he shared.
Despite competing in his home province, Hermosa emphasized that Filipino athletes support one another regardless of location.
As he seeks to finally claim gold after four consecutive years of silver finishes, Hermosa remains determined to give his best.
“Actually, every time I race din naman po, I always try to aim gold talaga. Lalo na pag local races, I always try to aim for the best,” he said.
“So far, I’ve only gotten silver since talagang malakas din po talaga yung ibang national team natin,” Hermosa added.
