Strengthening its commitment to ensuring students’ readiness to enter the world of work, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has conducted a series of seminars for graduating students nationwide through its Labor Education for Graduating Students (LEGS) program.
The initiative aligns with DOLE’s vision, led by Secretary Francis N. Tolentino, to foster a well-informed, responsible, and future-ready Filipino workforce while advancing the goals of decent work, youth employability, and sustainable economic development.
On June 4, 2026, 584 graduating students from the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) in Kidapawan City attended a seminar organized to help them make informed career decisions and transition confidently from school to the workforce.
Precious Ayrie Mae Boon, a graduating Mechanical Engineering student from USM, shared that while she had apprehensions about entering the workforce, the seminar’s discussions on workers’ rights, labor standards, and government support services helped ease her concerns and boosted her confidence as she prepares to begin her professional career.
“I am very thankful [to] DOLE for conducting this seminar because I now know what my rights [are] as a future professional, and it serves as my reassurance that there [are] laws that will protect me [at work] after graduation,” Boon said.
To reach thousands of future workers across higher education institutions, DOLE also conducted a series of seminars and career guidance activities in various universities, including Pampanga State University (PamSU), Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) – Batangas, Capiz State University, Guimaras State University, Saint Michael College of Hindang, Leyte Inc., and University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, benefiting nearly 13,000 students.
The activities equipped students with essential knowledge of general labor laws, workers’ rights and responsibilities, labor standards, occupational safety and health, employment opportunities, labor market information, and government employment facilitation programs.
DOLE, through its regional offices, actively conducts career guidance activities nationwide to promote labor awareness and ensure a smooth transition into the workplace for graduating students.
