Alexandra Eala advanced to the third round of National Bank Open after beating American Alycia Parks 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 Thursday morning, Philippine time.
Fresh off winning her first WTA Tour title in Washington D.C., Eala won five consecutive games from 1-1 to dominate the opening set.
Parks, however, forced a decider after breaking the Filipina star for the first time in the 10th game.
The final set stayed even until the fifth game, when Eala broke Parks’ serve and stayed in control the rest of the way to secure the victory in one hour and 51 minutes.
The win also avenged Eala’s loss to Parks in their first meeting at this year’s Australian Open.
Eala will return to the hard court on Saturday when she faces American world No. 70 Caty McNally. McNally advanced after upsetting reigning Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova, 7-6, 6-1.
