Gilas Pilipinas Women left for Las Vegas Nevada for a short training camp before flying to Guadalajara Mexico to compete in the FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament.
Handled by new head coach BT Toews, the nationals underwent two training camps in Manila since end of June, where the 17-woman national pool were determined .
From 17, Toews and his coaching staff trimmed the roster to 12 players for the Guadalajara meet, bannered by veteran mainstays Jack Animam, Janine Pontejos, and Afril Bernanrdino.
US NCAA Division I standout Vanessa De Jesus and two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player Kacey Dela Rosa also join the team which also includes Kent Pastrana, Jhazmin Joson, Angel Surada, Louna Ozar, Monique Del Carmen Alyssa Rodriguez and Sophia Dignadice.
The Philippines is grouped with Canada, Senegal and host Mexico in the August 17-23 tournament which stakes a berth in the women’s basketball Olympic qualifying tournament for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Games.
