Jayuard Alciso prevailed in an all-Filipino battle for bronze in men’s shortboard in surfing at the 20th Asian Games on Tuesday.
The 21-year old Siargao native defeated fellow Toby Espejon in the third-place match, 11.64 – 8.90.
Espejon enjoyed an early advantage until Alciso scored a 6.67 in Wave 9 to take the lead.
Alciso then clinched the win after Espejon only managed a 1.57 in his final wave.
Meanwhile, Juralyn Espanola finished tied for fifth overall in women’s shortboard after getting in the quarterfinals by Indonesia’s Jasmine Michelle Studer.
